Treated municipal solid wastes are some of the latest products of the processing of municipal waste in wastewater treatment plants, and that contain high levels of organic matter and are rich in nitrogen and phosphorus, which are essential for plant growth. In this project, treated solid wastes from the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Volos, which have been dehydrated by a special processor, are used. Additionally, considering the energy plants as alternative crops for biomass production and bioethanol in Greece in the near future, this project focuses on the effects of treated solid wastes to biomass of energy crops and bioethanol production and the effect at irrigation and water use efficiency. Additionally, the effect of the application of treated municipal solid wastes to the soil and the effects in the environment, are investigated. The application of treated municipal solid wastes in agriculture can reduce fertilizer application and simultaneously save precious irrigation water.
